A year ago Google announced that they would shut down its Universal Analytics traffic meter in July 2023, along with the launch of a new version: GA4. Basque media websites, except Argia magazine, have been immersed in this transition in recent months, in collaboration with the BEHA project developed by us. Almost two years have passed since the launch of the BEHA project, which started immediately after receiving support from the Euroregion, in autumn 2021. During this time, we have carried out an analysis and evaluation of the traffic and measuring devices on the websites and social networks of the media in Euskera; we have identified the needs and challenges and we have developed the proper tools and resources to respond to them, such as traffic monitoring panels. Along with the implementation of GA4 properties, we have designed panels that serve to squeeze out the basic information offered by this meter, tailoring it for each media and, at the same time, we have organized training sessions to deepen the knowledge of the tool, in collaboration with MU and SPRI, in order to better internalize the possibilities of digital analytics and to better master the digital diffusion of our own media.
There have been 60 media that have received these measuring panels and have been very welcome among them, as from now on they will have one more tool to know the traffic of their web and their audience. The training cycle we have carried out in this regard has also been well received, in which a total of 32 media have participated, including those who have made an effort to sign in at the last moment, taking into account the situation of many media, conformed by groups that are too small for the workload they have and find it difficult for them to participate in initiatives other than those of their day to day.
Although we have taken an important step, the BEHA project remains fruitful and, on the way, we will have the opportunity soon to present new results of the work carried out this years.
